What I call the Sarah Palin look...

So this outfit... with my hair pulled back and glasses... makes me look like Sarah Palin... It was suggested to me that I dress up as her for halloween the year of the elections.. however.. halloween being the week before one of the most insanely popular elections... when I wasn't voting for sarah palin... seemed like an odd contesious thing to do... (I would have done it, had my best friend who dressed up as hilary clinton pant suit, short blonde wavy hair and all, was in SLO, but she was in SF)
Anyhow, I LOVE this dress. and best part I found it at my parents house stuck in with a bunch of dresses that were/are mine, however, I have nooo idea how this one came about... oh well, I love it.

shoes - Xilaration
dress - banana republic
cardigan - second hand
pea coat - target

Also anyone interested... I have decided I am going to San Luis the weekend of the Cal Poly Wine Festival... hoping to depart arcata on wed or thurs. and then will have to speedily return on sunday... (the little turns 21 the week before, and I figure this will be a great way to spend time with here, celebrate, and not have to deal with celebrating with her and 349208492 million of her best friends on her actual birthday, even though I wish I could be there then too) so mark your calenders, I will be in town, if you aren't there, you should go so we can pretend we are in college again. (until we are reminded with a nasty hangover, that, in fact we are not the college kids we once were ;) )

Also for anyone wantting a deadline to get in shape... I am running a 1/2 marathon May 2nd... Avenue of the Giants. and going to follow it up with the SF marathon on July 25th... would love a partner to struggle through it with.... no pressure, just saying...

oooohhhhh and i've decided that I need to make plans to City travel next summer/fall or fall/winter.... I will have the car finally paid off (you can not possibly understand how excited I am for the day I mail off the last one!) and I want to City travel... this may turn into a cross country road trip, or it may more simply be a road trip on the west coast and then flights to places like... chicago ; ) (I am told to go in the fall... which I can't wait to see) and NYC... sooooo anyone wantting to join in on this plan is also more then welcome.

Warning:shoppers be warned... this may lead to spending...

I just found a wonderful site. www.eshakti.com
Now while they are made and shipped from India... and i get really excited about clothes that have been eaither made in the US or I got at a thrift store b/c of the carbon footprint (absolute nerd... blame college :) ) this site is unique for another reason. Typically I shy away from online shopping, I never really have done too much of it for clothing items b/c i worry about fit, although I know a lot of people that do and seem to have cracked the sizing methods. HOWEVER, This site offers a custom sizing option, for a bit more (i think like 10 bucks), BUT this is outstanding if you are one of those people with "non-normal" model measurements and end up having to hem pants, adjust sleeves, etc.

And.... they offer more modest clothing for a range of ages, so while I won't buy everything, there are some items that are awesome and aren't out of this world expensive eaither... (lindsay i thought especially of you with the teacher/fashion dilemma, and they have some jewelry, tons of scarves, just check it out already.

I have also noticed they seem to be big on promoting discounts and coupons... right now there is a $20 coupon circulating... RBG5MAT (not case sensitive) that should work til the 31st of Jan. There is also a $15 off coupon (the 20 one i think is for a first time customer) that is facebook123 (suppose to find it out when you become a fan on facebook) soooo now that I have given you $35 in coupons good through the 31st and some killer i finds that can be custom fit, GO SHOP!!! and let me know what you get!

Having a moment

Alright, so really I am not one to really get fed up with people. But I have had it for the moment. I try and schedule a trip down to SLO and let people know what weekend I can go to see if they would be available. They agree that it has been awhile since they have been and most say whenever works me. 2 PEOPLE say they can't go the weekend I was looking at (respectedly because they have inlaws coming into town) but that the weekend following looks great for them... which I can't go because I am housing senting for the sum of a month of rent... and everyone jumps on the bandwagon and is going that weekend. Meaning also if i plan to try and make it down anything right after that, I doubt people will be into it becuase they just went after all..... awekrj;lsdkjf;sdlkfjd;kj

Also I am fed up with people blaming other people. (maybe I just contridicted myself) If you come up to visit your old town and you know I live up here and I've told you I will be here, one would think you could just shoot a text over saying, "hey im here til friday, lets hang out sometime" and not wait til the last night you are here, when you are already at the bar and text me saying "come to everetts!" and then I respond I am having an allergic attack and goign to bed, how long are you here, which respond we leave tomorrow, I told you we got here on tuesday!.... you replied to a random post that said, cool, i will be here, look forward to see you, 4 weeks ago....

4 weeks ago I was in southern california, getting ready to go on a cruise to mexico for a week, at what point a 6.5 earthquake would happen in the town with all my belongings and a 7.0 earthquake would shake haiti to pieces... and you moved away almost a year ago, and I haven't really kept up with you on a normal basis... yet you expect me to just know I am suppose to call you to hang out with you while you are on "vacation" visiting Arcata....

Alright I am done... venting sesh over... oh by the way I am totally over the male population at this time as well, I am in the don't want to give you the time of day b/c you are proably just still in that life stage of wantting someone different every other week mind set....

Thank god its friday, I should go run, and finally get all this reading done....

Thursday, dry for the moment

So it has taken a break from dumping rain up here in Northern Ca (although it has dumped 6 FEET since monday on our local ski mountains, and more is to come!) and I am getting the running thing back in motion. I have realized I have to do it for me, if I am trying to keep up with someone, impress someone, or just do it for any reason but for my own sanity... I will not continue to do it.

Also... I have been craving a tri-tip sandwich from Firestones in San Luis Obispo since October... anyone have any good suggestions on the ability to get one mailed to me... I have someone willing, but how would one mail a meat sandwich without killing the thing or it going bad?!!?

short message today with just some outfit pictures... time to get some serious reading done for work!

Pants - Old navy white and blue pin stripes
Flats - Target
Shirt - Handme down, abercrombie (there needs to be a term for handme down from friends, hand me over?)
pearls - thrift store, all seperate, just layered
pea coat - Reference

(I also realize it is a little tough to actually see the details of the outfit, in which I reply, I am going to try and get better and taking closer shots...promise!)

Worst part of my day.

So this is going to sound strange but what is the thing that you hate doing to most... you dread and grit your teeth... I have things I'd rather not do, like get up, get out the front door and get my butt into shape... but then I feel better, more accomplished and calm.

However there is something I can't figure out how to make better and your going to laugh. The bathroom at work is cold, all the time. Some silly person has a sign on the door to keep the light on to warm the bathroom (stupidest concept ever, you are in the bathroom for how long...and you really think that 1 light bulb is going to heat the room for your 2 minutes... sorry who ever you are, I turn of the light) anyhow... the toliet seat is freakin' COLD... and i dread it, lol. I just hate that moment of sitting down, its like... the cold equvilant to sitting in a leather chair in a car that has been in a parking lot for hours under 100+ degree heat...ahhhh. (Why people buy leather interiors in climates that include many 100+ degree days still baffles me as much as the light bulb heater in our bathroom)

I always thought it was a ridiculous luxory to have a heated toliet seat... but now understand the concept and actual need for it, and would love one dearly at work (the energy efficent design model, of course). I however, will continue endure the cold seat and will also continue to turn off the bathroom light, no matter how long that sign remains up there, in the name of environmental resource management(I am also aware of the very tiny amount of energy a light bulb uses... still, turning off the light, its not heating the bathroom!)

In other news blood test came back from the dr. I some how have great good cholesterol (contributed by exercise) and alright bad cholesterol ( contributed by diet) which I could of told you without any blood being taken from my body. I somewhere along the line missed the how to shop for a balanced diet lesson of life.

Any recipes for good fish dinners would be greatly appreciated, or other thing for a low fat diet meals would be awesome, I enjoy cooking, but I need to start back up making a personal cookbook of yummy health blanced meals to master for the rest of my life, considering the only things I consider myself a master at include crepes (quite a skill can I tell you) pizza, mac and cheese, and spagetti... see the pattern here.....

Fashion Spot....

This was an outfit I was inspired to do by reading the blog The Clothing Horse... I took a dress and layered it with a skirt and tights to make it a shirt... making it appear differently using what I already have in a new way... shirt/dress - Ross maybe? Skirt - second hand, jean jacket -second hand black leggings- target blue suede penny loafers (inspiring the change in blog layout and title

This outfit is comfortable and very brown (now that I look at it in pictures I probably would change out the purse for something with color maybe tieing in with the necklace... to many shades of brown going on, but i'll share to get your opinon) ... now I struggle with colored tights, I know i shouldn't, but black makes me comfortable and a basic white t-shirt makes it a double comfy, to make it acceptable to public I pair it with some brown boots ("rain" appropriate shoes) and either a brown bomber like jacket or a simple brown long waisted cardigan and a splash of bling with a longer necklace.... almost all target, love that place, but the necklace my sister made for me for christmas as a gift.

Its rainning... its snowing

I had a wonderful weekend up in Shasta, hoping that I would get snowed in as they are suppose to get an epic snow storm (we are talking 10-15 FEET) oh well, snow is fun and I will take what I can on a budget with a real world job.
I am determined that 2010 is going to be better and I am finally getting the hang of the real world, I do not really know why it took me 7 months to figure it out, but I am ok with that. I am beginning to run again, I am waking myself up, getting out the door, and kicking my little (large) rear-end into shape. 3 miles this morning, and managed to dodge the rain that will be pouring all day. I am happy... I think I needed the self therapy of just going home, not worrying about how things are going to work out, catching up with old friends and figuring out what I really want out of life (I know I go on and on about this, but those are the thoughts in my head)...
I will get out the camera as soon as I unpack finally and can show up the adorable new additions to my clothing, including this adorable pink dress.... I can not contain myself over it...
I ran 3 miles this morning, with a friend. He is a sprinter/football player, so something like 3 miles was foreign to him and I am mearly out of shape, so it worked out well. The fact that I got him up and to my house at 8am sharp was pretty incrediable in my head. (of course there are rumors someone is interested) in my head I just choose to ignore this, b/c i'm akward and yeah.... I am akward in that situation, but he is on to something, for the fact that he's hanging out with me in a situation that doesn't involve alcohol and is actually healthy and I am comfortable in (sweaty and red faced and all, I am much more comfortable then in a bar being hit on) so we shall see, if nothing else good friend, and someone to push me and get be out and running and trying to keep up (he is a guy after all)
I am hoping to get myself ready to run a 1/2 at the beginning on May (shouldn't be a problem as long as I keep running) and then a full in July in SF, and then I figure I will hit up City to Sea in San Luis Obispo in Oct, it is a fundraiser for the JC track team I ran on for a year and I have helped run the race twice, its about time I run the darn thing, and its flat as ever, so really it'll be a "work-out" by that time... lol, and its a good excuse to go to SLO

Well hello 2010...

Hello, I am back, much more relaxed, a slight shade darker (ok, maybe just a few more freckles to appear a bit darker) and ready to get going. Mexician Reveria cruise was amazing (although I don't really know if reveria is an acurate term to use truely) Cabo was beautiful and sea kayaking and snorkeling where totally worthe it. Beautiful shades of blue and the water was actually really nice (especially considering it is January). A tourist-y town though, Puerta Vallerta was really amazing though and a place I think I would go back to for awhile to soak in the culture and enjoy the public art, wonderful colors and culture that seemed to exist there. Was // <- that close to getting a pair of leather cowboy boots there but decided I just was going to need to wait til the next trip (this "next" trip will also include a blue diamond ring, as much as I am not a big jewelry fan, blue diamonds are a wonderful shade I could not get over) so it'll be an expensive trip but sure will come out with a good pair of shoes and a little sparkle. (back to reality)....

Being home and spending time with the family was wonderful this time around, I purely think this was due to the number of activities that took place, but was great, snowboarding, Christmas, family/friend Christmas party, new years eve party at our house, and a week cruise to Mexico, sure does make it a wonderful trip with just enough down time to call it a success.

I flew back up to Arcata on Tuesday on Alaska/horizon airline. Now I have a silly question, I paid $15.00 to check 1 piece of my luggage, ok, I get it, people carry alot of crap on planes, and together mine probably weighed about the same as a small child, so 15 for my checked child wasn't so bad... get on the plane, get up in the air (taking off from LAX always is just so beautiful as you cruise down the coastline) and they pull on the beverage cart while one of the attendants announces they have snacks available for a small fee and rattles off 4.50 for this, 3.75 for this, blah blah blah..... complementary drinks are available to you though at no charge, choices include water, apple juice, coffee, coke (list continues)..... our choice beer of the day, or a white wine....."uhhhh?!!" so what you are telling me is that you will get me drunk in an airplane for free, but I'll have to pay to eat something or bring my luggage..... I guess it probably boosts ratings and happiness of passengers lol. but seriously?! charge for food, not alcohol... I guess things change, worked well for me though I suppose.

Now on to my plans for the new year. I am not a big person on resolutions, but I am a planner, so I look at it more as "life planning" since resolutions just seem to be for breaking and not fulfilling these days.

1. Read more, I use to read a ton, and it dwindled as soo much was required in school through text books, just finished "Avoiding prison and other noble vacation goals" if you enjoy traveling and are suck at home due to career, bills, etc... its a great book, or if you have traveled alot, pick it up as well, its a good laugh all the way through and a great way to travel along with the writer.

2. Run out my stresses, I will admit it, I am a huge planner and worrier, I do not do well with having to choose between A and B, I can get 5-10 or even 100 choices down to like 2 or 3, but then I can't handle it... I worry about a lot of other uncontrollable things in life too... I contribute this to not exercising nearly enough, soooo I got a Garmin for Christmas (this crazy watch made for runners and multi sport athletes that tells you everything but your eye color pretty much) and I want to start running again, and now I am going to make the time to do it, this morning I got up and ran 3 miles (I was dieing and realized waaayyy out of shape) and it can't get any worse from here. I just have to make the time and kick my butt out the front door.

3. Start something new.... I am brainstorming but I want to learn to dance, you know, like actually dances that old people know how to do, and is getting lost and forgotten in our generation.... and I want to start an alumni group up here in Arcata/Eureka area for Greek women. I am sure there are others out there, although it's not really your girly girl type of place, but I know 2 women, not Tri-Delts, but I figure if there is me, and I know 2, there has got to be more, and I plan to investigate if there are others, how,... well I'll figure it out, but i think it would be a great thing for myself and probably for them too...

4. I am going to take more pictures, I don't like pictures of myself but there sure is a lot of beauty in the world around all of us and I want to get back into capturing it all and sharing it.

5. Blog more and stay connected, through visiting people, through emailing them, through writing hand written snail mail (there is a sense of happiness of getting something in the mail that is personalized for you and is not a statement or a bill generated by a computer)

I know I don't want to be in Arcata forever, but I am accepting that this is where I am meant to be and I am going to grow and enjoy it while I am here and figuring out my next move.

Ok...really time to get to work...
