There's somethin' happenin' here, what it is ain't exactly clear

You know its bad music, but you still listen to it. All of that  hip-hop, happening music. There there is the music that is amazing pieces of artistry. I always wonder what will be the musical pieces of this decade, and if it will be looked at like the way I look at music of my parents era. The 60's and 70's have some amazing artists, singers, songwriters, geniuses. Paul Simon is God, period, end of discussion.

Its music that is so symbolic and recognizable, I played a musical instrument way back when I was growing up, but that has little to do with my pure amazement and respect for what those songs stand for, and why they are composed the way they are, the order of the songs, the messages they deliver. Buffalo Springfield with For What it's Worthe ,Cosby Stills Nash & Young's Ohio, are very strong messages and focused messages, they are powerful because of the imagery they promote and the emotion in which they where formed and highlight.

You have the  Jefferson Airplanes, Jimi Hendrix, Peter, Paul and Mary, and when Dylan goes electric... If all of today's music went away and we only had the music of the 60's and 70's I think I would perfectly content... I probably was a flower child in another life, who am I kidding. But the music of that time, is truer art.

I know each and every musical piece is a piece of art, but find me something that is a billboard hit now that has the depth of an album like Bookends... from the cover art work, to the order of songs, to the story it tells, to the way it is orchestrated. And don't even get me started on The Beatles Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band... and the epic recording process of Lucy in the Sky.

I will admit I have my share of new music, because well you can not give up on the possibilities of new musical artists becoming the next Paul Simon, the next Beatles, but one thing I have noticed with music of the current decade, it is all about the self, love, rejection, where I think the music of the 60's and 70's spoke more about society experiences of these emotions, time passing, events happening, and they are used as a way to outreach about changes, wrong doings as a nation, society.

Do not get me wrong, I know there are some now, and not all the music in the 60's and 70's fall in the categories I mentioned, of course there was personal songs... but today's songs that are in support of a political view, event, etc. seem to be special collaborations, exceptions, that are more or less a marketing ploy to sell more, make another buck. Some of the best hits and pieces of musical work out of the 60's are pure creativity by the one singing the song, not just written for the singer, and was made for the purpose of making music and taking the great opportunity these ground breaking musicians had, to challenge music to do more then just play in the background at a club.

* I enjoy my club music too, I listen to everything really, and appreciate the innovative music that came out of the 80's, 90's and the 21st century, maybe there was more passion during that war, opposed to the war happening now, and today's view that "it can not happen to me" attitude... there is a disconnect that continues to widen from then til now.. maybe that is why music like then could not really take off now, people choose to disconnect to so much of what is happening that isn't all rainbows and sunshine now-a-days.

I feel like a copy-cat..

But I am going to roll with it. I took a few different ideas from other bloggers today, and threw them together... Which I guess is part of the point for reading blogs, to find things, adapt them to something you put on, and grow "fashionably"... well I sorta forgot the adapt thing today, but "borrowing" is ok too, right?

I however, am much more excited about this outfit then I have for a few lately for two solid reasons... 1. The scarf as a belt addition, inspired by Paige over at Barefoot and Vintage. She pretty much incorporates a scarf into almost ever outfit she wears, and I seriously have a basket full of them that I haven't touched since March... terrible, so here we added one as a belt, lovin' it.

Also the necklace I finally am styling my own, after borrowing Kristens many times for outfits here and there. I am trying to be more of an accessory junky, I have things, I just don't wear them ever.

watch - Citizen
multi-strand necklace - f21 inspired by Kristen at I was there
heels - Chinese Laundry

Such an impostor, aren't I?!?!?!

Item # 2 that I am just smitten with, if you haven't noticed above, is my hair...

This element I can attribute to the blog realm as well, since when I go to log in at Bloglovin' to check out all the updates on the blogs I follow, and who is following mine. I scroll through the main pages selected blog posts before logging in, and there seems to be a trend of snap shots of the Olsen sisters. I go back and forth if they look stylish, or thrown together, either way... it inspired me to try and braid my hair around.

I will admit, its not easy, and I have plenty of practice doing regular, french, fish tail, etc braids on mine, and others heads. I only had to start over once, as the first attempt looked like half of my head was a hot mess.
You however get pictures of the 2nd attempt that turned out well enough to spray down and last the day...

While not perfect, its pretty good for having short-ish hair right now, and not attempting to braid my own hair in over a year and a half.

Pretty fancy for a Friday and all, but comfy outfit, and hair pulled back... I miss my long hair, but the fact I pulled off this feat, makes me feel like its at least long enough to play with again : )

business in the front, party in the back

Alright so normally I listen to Pandora at work to get my music fix. Most months I can make it with the normal 40 free hours, but when I go over this (they want you to pay if you are using it that much), I head over to slacker radio. Its pretty much the same thing, but I have fine tuned my stations on pandora, I am sure if I spent a little more time on slacker I could do the same..

back to where I was going with this...

Alejandro by Lady Gaga came on....and I can help but feel like its a throw back to the Ace of Base and TLC era... or am I the only one that hears it??? do you hear it?
Onwards to the clothes...
I have had the oddest draw towards yellows and oranges lately, and I am all for it! It is a refreshing change up from the normal color palate and perhapes I am subconsisously trying to make it seem more like summer then it feels like sometimes.
The fun part about this outfit pair up is its like a mullet... Stay with me
With a sweater (as above), its business/work appropriate in the front, and then BAM!! ditch the sweater, and turn around...

sweater - old navy via thrift
top - american cancer society thrift
pencil skirt - love 21, f21
pumps - thrifted
a classy party in the back!!! So its way cooler and classy then a mullet, but I thought mullet when I looked at this all put together. I do not call mullets a success by any means, but this "mullet" outfit is a winner in my books (not to fluff my own feathers or anything)
It is a work appropriate, but could be perfect for going out for a drink or two after work... when I live somewhere where I will do this... fun, young, comfy and bright!
(side note, this is a BHCO - before hair cut outfit, I had taken pictures earlier this week, promise I did wear this, but didn't get around to posting it til now. Also, I am testing out the post options to "post in the futre" and will be in SF conquering big things when this posts (if i did it right), , should be back on Monday or Tuesday and will let you know what I am up to)

bright-er days

On-ward to Thursday!
I got my hair cut, which you can't really see here, b/c I was running late, and thus hair gets pulled back... My body has been all sorts of confused this week and my sleeping schedule is getting all funky, I am wide awake til mid-night at least... thus leading to rough tired mornings.
Enter bright orange skirt and vintage heals...

I really enjoy these heals, they are a creamy white, with a detailed spiral across the toes, leaving a small little peep toe, unfortunately, they are about 2mm to small... seriously, I don't have to work to get my feet in them, but I really could only handle wearing this for these pictures, and even that was a little bit of a struggle. *sigh, so really they say 7 1/2, but are more like a 7... I need to find someone to love them b/c I don't want them to just go back to a thrift store. They are on the verge of "grandma-ie, but I think they are just classic, I do not think they would be accepted at the consignment shop, nor sell if they tried (shoes aren't as hot as the clothing items there I have noticed) and I don't want them going to a thrift store...

selfish? maybe... are you a 7 and possibly interested? let me know.

shirt - target ~ skirt - tulle ~ shoes - thrifted ~ jean jacket - thrifted ~ watch - citizen

And the skirt, I can't decide if I should of ordered a small, every other skirt I have gotten from Tulle a medium fits comfortable well and like a personally made glove, but this one, had I tried it on in a store, probably would have tried the small to see how it fit. Its not that this is huge, but it just seems like a little bit more fabric then I need... but I still enjoy it and am wearing it, and think it will become well used and loved, as long as I don't get any smaller, bigger yes, smaller no. Oh the woes of running many miles... I know, you feel for me right?? *smirk

love this

I also... absolutely love this dress... need to figure out how to replicate it on a smaller budget...
