Last night we went up to Kneeland, up up up, above the marine layer that blankets Arcata each and every night practically, and especially last night. Once we got up there, we went out by the airport thats out there ( a very very very small airport) and parked in the dark...
I absolutely loved it, up there it still has the dry smell of summer, it was actually a warm summer evening, compared to the blasted weather we have down here... although holding their beauty in different ways... it was wonderful to get up there... We just laid out on the hood of the car and it was sooo dark you could see the milky way clearly, and the meteors.....
OMG, I have never seen a meteor shower like that, grant it we did not stay out for the peak of the shower, we saw plenty great ones, probably frequenting 1 ever 2 or 3 minutes (at the peak they where suppose to be 1 a minute) but some of them where sooooo bright, and long tailed, and just plain amazing.
No airplanes needed last night to pretend where shooting stars, there where plenty to wish upon.
I would normally say, that the time exposure of videos, like the one below, intensifies the color and vibrancy of the meteors... but honestly they where that bright and almost visibly that long of tailed on some of them, just a bit faster moving, but still slower than I am use to.
Amazing...
